Recorded in this CD is original music for trombone quartet by renowned composers who have utilized this special ensemble format as an instrument of expression of their world perception. These are works by the highly admired European composers, Eugene Bozza, Jerome Naulais and Brian Lynn. Also included and commissioned by the Trombones de Costa Rica, are new works by Costa Rica composers, Vinicio Meza and Eddie Mora, and the American composer, Gordon Sherwood. The willingness of these composers to write new music for the trombone is a testament to just how far the instrument has come from its days as an accompanying voice. Coupled with improved technique and virtuosity of its players, new works should propel the trombone to even greater heights. We, brass musicians, are fortunate to live in this time full of musical richness and great things waiting to come.
